Terrible as an e-book. No page numbers and half of the content is missing. I was really hoping to purchase this to use in class instead of having to carry the heavy textbook around campus, but this e-book is useless to me and wastes my time trying to find content that isn't there. Additionally, when I am assigned to read specific pages, I am unable too since there are no page numbers with the e-book. I ended up purchasing the physical copy of the textbook. I will not be purchasing e-textbooks from Amazon again.

The CSCS certification is one of the most recognized in the industry. I used this manual along with CSCS Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist: 2018 Edition Study Guide that highlights the knowledge required to pass the CSCS Exam to become a Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach to prepare for the CSCS exam and passed both sections (Scientific & Practical / Applied) on my first attempt! The study guide points out areas you need to focus on and has two great practice tests (one for each section) that help to see where you stand with the knowledge. Once you read through the manual and review the guide you can brush up any areas needed from there so you are set come test day. I highly recommend both books!

I have had the 3rd edition for almost a year and about two months ago purchased the fourth on Kindle. I think the updated information is worth the extra money and I am glad I purchased this book. I would like to share though that , it is very important that if you are personal training and not just working with Athletes, you get the Essentials of Personal Training, because the extra chapters on Special Populations like clients with MS etc... make it worth it. However, as far as healthy athletes are concerned, this book is an excellent start and will carry you into the intermediate level, whereas the NSCA topic specific books seem to go a little different.

As someone who has an exercise science degree I didn't think the online materials were significant. The labs maybe a bit, but there were very few videos in my opinion (10 or 13 maybe). To be worth it I really need some extra insight from an expert, with citations where applicable (as in the text)... I think you could find comparable or better demo's) explanations on YouTube from athleanX, Scott Herman, Jeff nippard and maybe even Scooby or a general search. Just didn't hold up to the text. I thought at first that a question bank may be included. But that's an extra nondescript fee and is for instructors so I don't know if you have to submit a university email or something. I do LOVE the text though; both concise and descriptive with intriguing research cited.

It covers all the points in great detail. Well explained topics, and very interesting to read, a very complete book. The best option out there if you wanna be a personal trainer...

This book is very dense and I recommend that you purchase a few other things to accompany it first, one being "Science and Practice of Strength Training, Second Edition". That being said, I still very much like this book.Coming from a background as a college athlete at a major division I program, I was exposed to many of the practices mentioned in this text and can appreciate the acknowledgement of the mental side of performance. The authors attempt to spare no details in terms of they covered a lot about the big things in training, periodization, exercise selection and some basic biology. The one area that left me wanting more was the chapters on periodization. I would have like to see an example of different approaches, ex. more of a side by side comparison of the linear and nonlinear programming mentioned and why things in the individual programs might be less than optimal. There are however entire books about the subject so I can't complain! If you buy this book, you're more looking for science and being able to break down programs and learn what's working well in them. If you're looking for specific programs for your athletes or sample programs you might want to reconsider. I will say that after I've read through this a couple of times I am more able to recognize that many programs can be constructed very well and this book just lets you know a little more about which ones have more good things than the others. If you ever read another "fitness article" your bs meter will quickly be able to detect quality

This is the TOP resource to read for passing the CSCS. It's not an easy test. Make sure you brush up on your sports nutrition!

My daughter used this to get her accreditation for strength and conditioning. She passed on her first attempt.
