In all of her books, Silver Ravenwolf's writing style is fun, frank, engaging, and accessible, and this one, To Light a Sacred Flame, is just as delightful as the others. 'Sacred Flame is chock full of magickal goodies, both for newcomers to the Craft and those of us who have been practicing it for years. Don't just plan to read it, however; walk the Path with her and do the work, and it will enrich your spirituality, whatever that might be. All of her books (and I have a few)in my collection are dog-eared, well-thumbed through, and much cherished.This one, no doubt, will suffer the same fate...

The title of my review just about explains it all; For each their own Path....And that is the very best thing I can say about any of Silver Ravenwolf's books. I have not had a chance to read this book from cover to cover as I am still working on a couple of her other books. I CAN honestly tell you that if this book moves along as the other three books of hers that I have read and work from so far, then this will not be a disappointment in content. I read most every review on alot of her books, including this one, prior to purchasing them and was quite shocked to find such disparity regarding her works from the Wiccan comminity. It seems you either love her or don't like her (the word 'hate' does not belong in the Wiccan world) and that's fine and so she states in every one of her books I have opened so far. She makes very clear that what she imparts may not be comfortable for you, stresses that you follow the path that is, gives excellant reading references to further your education as well as encourages you to explore as many different traditions/rites as you are comfortable with beyond what she provides in her works. As to myself personally, a fairly new practicing Solitary, I feel she communicates in an very comprehensive and fun manner that makes not only what she is trying to convey easier to read, but less restrictive in how it can make you feel about yourself and if your doing the right things or not. As one reviewer said, "Who smiles all the time", and even though she found it redundant to read in print, what she neglected to take away from her readings was that Silver's constant written reminders soon finds one that comes to terms with themselves within their own religious practices actually smiling alot more without printed reminders. She continually stresses that WICCA IS A RELIGION, that not everyone agrees at the same church in the Christian world and it's okay not to agree in the Wiccan world. And all her teachings stress the Wiccan Rede to 'harm none' and if my review has done nothing else, I hope it stands as a reminder to others writing reviews that a true Wiccan should limit themselves to "constructive criticism" or hold their tongues (computers). For those looking for an honest review, if you like Silver's other books, I can not see how her writing would disappoint in this book and recommend you purchase with confidence.

Not knowing anything about the author, I bought that book because of its title--since I am a native of France, I was interested in an American view of the country, its people and culture, etc. Plus a story about perfume sounded very exciting. The book was actually a big disappointment as it is just a totally predictable romantic story, with not much substance to it. First, the description of France and the French characters is very cliché, and sounds like the author's only knowledge of the country comes from tourist brochures. Her use of French words is atrocious--if you have no knowledge of a foreign language, please don't use it, or get an editor who can correct it!! Perfume: the author seems to be confused between aromatherapy and the production of actual perfume, which is a very sophisticated, complex, and refined industry--nothing you can do in one hour!. The story: an easy read, nicely written, but characters are not developed enough; as said above, the French ones are totally cliché and shallow, plus the whole plot is predictable from page 2. In addition, the fact that the main character is trying to resolve everyone's problem (and apparently succeeding!) by producing some concoction of aromatherapy for them sounds a bit .... laughable--sorry! This could have been a very good story with more in-depth study and descriptions of locations and more research on the perfume industry that would have anchored the characters; better psychological studies and definition of the characters; and not such a predictable plot line.

This could have been a really cute, lighthearted story but for the fact that the main character Del, constantly is saying dammit, god, Jesus etc. I'm no prude but don't appreciate or understand why talking in that way makes a character more likable. Especially a young girl. Granted I did not read the whole book but after awhile this got old and I deleted it from my library.

I seldom write reviews, and only when I feel an author fills my heart and mind with believable characters and interesting stories about them. Rebecca sets many of her stories in Paris, my favorite place in the world. Although she toured the city faster than humanly possible this time, she captured the essence of the city - it's smell, taste, touch, sounds and wonder. It was a love story, but with a special cast of characters, with their own back stories.

Although this is technically part of a trilogy, it can be read separately. Personally, I found this to the the best of the group. I enjoyed the characters and learning the techniques used to create a fragrance.

I hesitated ordering The Little Perfume Shop Off The Champs-Elysees because it’s cover suggested “fluff” within, and I usually avoid that sort of read. But something compelled me to click on “buy” and there it was, ready to read. And what a lovely surprise!Paris and Provence are two of my favorite places in the world, and the storyline, locations and characters had me from the first few pages. I’m not even a perfume fan, but the obvious research that went into this book provided wonderful insight into the world of fragrance. I found myself conjuring up the lovely scents and smells, and began to understand why just a whiff of Chanel No. 5 brings back memories of my dear mother.Rebecca Raisin captured the essence and magic of Paris and Provence, introduced me to well developed characters and touched my heart with her understanding of how people we love still connect with us long after we lose them.The Little Perfume Shop Off The Champs-Elysees was a delightful read.

Really makes you feel like you're in Paris. Charming book with interesting characters. Main issue I had was that there was just not enough back story to explain how the heroine had the money fracture with her sister and where she and her sister got the money to plan to open up a perfume store in NYC in the first place. That would imply they inherited hundreds of thousands if not millions from the grandmother maybe? It wasn't from the poor hippie parents, and the heroine isn't independently wealthy so this is a pretty confusing plot hole.

I love the whole Paris series. The author writes with such a love of Paris that it is a living, breathing being that comes out of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the series and am kind of sad that it is over. I hope that she writes more. Read the series, you won’t be sorry. This is why they call Paris the city of romance. It is not only a love story between two people but a love story to Paris.

This is a very enjoyable story. The plot is interesting all the way through, and the characters are colorful and memorable. Descriptions of Paris locations make for a delightful read, and evoke beautiful memories of new beginnings in the “City of Love”. Warm and Fuzzy old fashioned love story!

A great story with developed characters and the manny/widow trope. I had high hopes, but something happened about the half way point. It’s like the editor just stopped working. One page alone had seven errors. Then, it’s like the comma rules were reversed: where there should have been commas, they were missing and then random commas just appeared wherever the author wanted them. Constant errors take away from the book, especially the start of a series.

Ethan needed a fresh start after his last disastrous relationship and moved in with his childhood best friend Finn. Finn was also responsible for mentioning the nanny job Caleb was hiring for. Caleb was stuck in a rut at work and in over his head raising his three children after the death of his wife. Ethan and Caleb both tried to keep thing professional for the sake of the kids but quickly realized they had a deeper connection that couldn't be ignored any longer. Caleb almost let fear completely ruin the best thing that had happened to his family and his children and brother called him on it. I laughed at how Finn always seems to mother his friends and help them navigate their tricky relationships. Hopefully Dylan will do more than just help Grayson walk again.'I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.'

Caleb is a widower who needs assistance with his three children because he can't work to take care of his family and physically be there to take care of them. So he winds up hiring Ethan to be his nanny. Caleb did not expect that the nanny would not only be good for the children but that his presence in their lives would wind up providing spark and care for him as well. This couple had chemistry and this was a good story from beginning to end.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

i read this book as part of an arc program. In this book, Caleb is a single father of three children and he decides to hire help because he feels like he can't do everything anymore. Caleb's wife had died a few years ago and he has been alone since. When Ethan left his boyfriend and moved back to Worthington, he went to work as a manny for Caleb in hopes of saving enough money to eventually go back to medical school. Ethan fit in with the family and everything was going great, except he had a crush on Caleb. Caleb also had a crush on Ethan, but he never told anyone he was bisexual and he didn't know how his family would react to him being with a man. Caleb also didn't want to risk having his kids get attached to someone for them to leave. When Ethan accidentally found Caleb's stash of gay porn, he knew Caleb liked men for sure. Ethan knew it was a risk to get involved with Caleb and he could lose his job, but he couldn't help himself. When Caleb and Ethan acted on their attractions to each other, Caleb wanted to hide it from the kids and Ethan agreed. They began a secret fling, but Ethan felt things were only going to get harder because he had feelings for Caleb and Caleb wouldn't acknowledge him as a love and he wondered if he could continue working for him. I enjoyed this story. I felt so bad for Caleb, i thought he lost so much and thought he couldn't be happy again. Ethan really loved Caleb and wanted to be with him, but he couldn't live in secret. I loved the relationship Ethan had with the kids and i think he brought them all closer. Good one.

Ethan needed a job and a fresh start, so he could move on with his life. Neither of them expected to find more.I love that Caleb decides to ask for help, that he sees that he can't do everything, but I don't like that he's ashamed of it. In my opinion, a person who needs help and doesn't ask for it out of pride is weaker than someone who recognizes it.And I don't like that he is still hiding. It's not just for his children, it's for himself. He doesn't want to recognize who he is and what he feels.Ethan is braver, because he didn't hide, even though it cost him his relationship with his family. And, although it's not easy, he has managed to leave his ex and fights to start over. He wants to go back to university, he wants to fulfill his dreams.I love his relationship with Caleb's children. He is understanding with them, he listens to them. And it hurts that Caleb doesn't have that relationship with Cara, that she trusts Ethan before she trusts him. But it's very credible. Sometimes it's easier to talk to a stranger than to someone in your own family.I love them together.I love Grayson. He wants his brother to be happy, but he also wants him not to hurt Ethan.I also love Cara, who was lost at the beginning of the book, but who becomes a girl as understanding as Ethan.

The graphics are clear and well-presented. The Kindle version is well-formatted.

This book is more than a presentation of the evidence for the change in polar bear populations. It is a good lesson about the scientific method. It is also an eye-opener about academia and so called peer-reviewed journals. Well worth the read.

This is fascinating if imperfect book. You can sum up the conclusion as: "Science is hard, and nature is wonderfully complex." I was surprised to learn that polar bears are the only species declared threatened based on model predictions of the future rather than an actual census of the population. The author makes a convincing case that the model predicted catastrophic population declines if "summer" sea declined by 50% from prime polar bear habitat. The models predicted this would happen by 2050. In fact it has occurred nearly every year since 2007 and yet the polar bears are doing just fine. In fact sightings and attacks are increasing. The author never once "denies" global warming but argues the polar regions have historically variable weather and climate. The negative one-star review is a simple ad hominem attack and like the 14 co-authors of a peer-reviewed polemic by noted global warming proponents does not address a substantive scientific critique. With a better editor, I would have given this a five-star review.

I love this book. It gives you all the basics on mending. Not only just on mending but on how you can use the mending as part of the appeal of the garment thru decorative stitching to adding fun pockets. Kristin takes you from how to decide weather a garment is worth mending or not to basic stitches, patching, surface stitches, seams, zippers, fancy and decorative repairs/accents. As well as adding in several projects to practice your mending skills on like a project bag, mending clutch, needle book and a tailors ham. This is a great book with lots of ideas for upcycling your existing garments into new wearable art.

This sweet, practical guide to extending the life of your clothing, as well as customizing thrift store finds and learning how to make a garment work for you, has become a valued addition to my craft book collection. Mending your clothing instead of tossing it away just because it has a hole, stain, etc., is not only a measure in saving money and preserving favorite articles of clothing, but it also makes you feel good about yourself, and it makes you appreciate what you've got rather than having the automated knee-jerk reaction to go out and buy buy buy.This book will pay for itself quickly, even if you use it just for the sock-darning instructions alone. There are many wonderful ideas in here that I hadn't thought of before. The instructions are all very clear, and the author writes in a very friendly, down-to-earth way. Very inspiring!

I borrowed this book from my local public library, and loved it so much I decided I should buy it and add it to my personal textile library. I knit and sew and mend clothes, love vintage clothes and textiles, and like to re-use or re-purpose textiles when I feel so moved. I really appreciate the author's attitude of re-making or mending treasured clothes, instead of throwing them out.This book inspired me to make over my favorite green, very soft, machine-made lambswool sweater, of which I've long since worn the elbows into Swiss cheese-like hole-iness.Very helpful is the author's list of questions for determining whether an item is worth the effort of re-making or mending. Also very helpful is the list of tools and details of mending procedures.A quibble I have with the book is that the author doesn't go into re-knitting patches for knitted garments. Looking at the socks photographed in the book with crocheted, much thicker heels, I wouldn't want to wear those in shoes.This book did directly inspire me to knit a new sleeve up past the elbow for the beloved green sweater, and knit leaf-shaped patches to cover the small holes. This book has inspired a truly ˝mended-it-better˝ sweater than the original machine-made sweater was, so I count the book as well worth having.The sewing directions and mending suggestions are excellent and inspirational. Thank you, Ms. Roach! P.S. I used to shop at the Rag Stock in Iowa City in the 90's, too, and got some great clothes there, such as a pair of East German Army thick wool pants.

I have four kids, so often have a pile of clothes in need of repair. Since I sew lots of their clothes myself, I'm inclined to repair rather than replace, but I'm not much of a mender. Well, WASN'T much of a mender. This little book gave me so many ideas that I actually don't mind mending as much. Not to say I love it, but honestly, the quality of my repairs is much higher and the fixes look cuter using ideas from this book. I really appreciate it since I taught myself everything I know about hand sewing, and I've gotten a lot of tips from the book.

I have two young children and the knees in their pants all have holes in them half way through the school year. I am not about to go buy them new clothes at this point, especially where their pants still fit...enter Mend it Better. I felt like this book was excellent. It really lives up to its name. I am not a beginner when it comes to sewing, but I am when it comes to patching and mending clothes. The detailed list of supplies you need is excellent. Not only does she tell you what you need, but the author tells you why you need it. She also explains how to mend every conceivable fabric, article of clothing and type of rip you might encounter: Sweaters, pants, silk, leather, knits...You are given multiple ways to patch so you can use whichever method is best for you. I got this book yesterday and already I have patched a hole. It was easy to understand and I feel it turned out great! I might even bust out the holey socks that have been plaguing my family and mend those!!Really great purchase, I feel this book will get a lot of use.

Actually the reason that I purchased this book is to assist me in learning to apply applique's to baby blankets. This proved to be a big help in many, many, area's of sewing as well as mending. The instructions are clear and diagrams well drawn, tho there are a few places that I would have prefered a bit more illustrations.

This book is informative and well written. I like it. it's not too expensive, and it's not too complicated. It's a good addition to my crafting closet and handy to have around for my mending needs.

I checked this book out from the library before purchasing. I liked the book well enough to buy it. I know the basics of mending but this is a good reference for tips, hints and reminders for any mending project I would tackle.

Adequate but not practical as a quick reference tourist guide. Too much historical detail and special group or types of people info. Rick Steves pocket guide is much better for quick reference to basic how, where, when info. Actually love the Eye Witness Paris book better because it has a lot of pictures and illustrations that help me to visualize the quarters and district very quickly. However, due to the high quality of paper and binding, the Eye Witness book is not practical for actual travel or carrying around Paris. If you don't mind wading thru a lot of detailed info and need special info for children or other special groups, this book would be the book to have. The print is small and not easy for me to read or for reference, but as a full coverage type of book, it is very good.

A narcissistic, obsessive, disconnected meditation by an author who seems to have collected random tidbits related to water, and/or swimming in his literary and geographic travels/imagination. It contains strong 'undertones' of pedophilia, the 'beauty' of suicide, the pains (and delights) of being gay, and long paragraphs with many non-sequiturs. It is loaded with casual name dropping of persons who are not described as to profession, age, any aspect of their life, or how they fit the narrative, other than in the author's mind. He has a 'unique' definition of swimming, which is then constantly modified by his many, briefly discussed, literary or athletic figures. Many discussions of languid times/fantasies spent admiring and wishing to touch the bodies of the very young, although always safely observed from a distance. I read a book a week, am very literary, and always finish, no matter how painful. This one required an exhausting, 20 pages a day schedule, to survive it. Worst book I've bought in years.

The information listed on where to go, or what to see was above average to excellent. The resturants were sublime. The maps were a flipping nightmare. I don’t use Google. I use paper maps. These maps had keys over Street names and didn’t overlap so you could follow from each chapter. If you get to Paris, grab a free Printemps map and mark it up with the good suggestions in the book, or get out your electronic gadgets to figure out directions.

Like all Rough Guides, this one is for travelers, not tourists. It includes tons of information about the city's neighborhoods and how to explore them. Listings of accommodations, shops and restaurants are much less complete. The vibe of the book is quite young -- there's more about hostels, campgrounds and cheap meals than this old lady and independent traveler needs to know, but I'm sure the detailed information on nightlife and LGBT venues are useful to many. Still, I love the personal, non-touristy aspect of these books. A Rough Guide plus a conventional book like Fodor or Frommer's and I'm all set.

My wife and I used this for our recent trip to Paris. We found it to be our favorite source of information over all of the other travel guides we looked at. The information was very current, and the tips for things to do were great. Highly recommend this one.

Very good, but Paris is so full of activities that the book would have to be twice as thick and still would not cover everything.

Paris is difficult. This guide helps to unravel the chaos.

I've relied on Rough Guides for over 25 years. They are current and yes, opinionated. That's good. Rather than relying on reputation or received wisdom, the writing team tells it as they see it. Very helpful for knowing what's worth the money and what isn't. I've always liked their sensibilities.
