I docent at an historical museum in the PNW, leading tours for K-6 grade children. I will use this book as a reference to share with the children about Native American culture. Kids would have to have a real curiosity to read and enjoy this book on their own'; it's a bit dry and wordy. Teachers, on the other hand, would love it as a resource in their history curriculum.

This is a very nice book aimed at the 3-6th grade audience. It is written in plain simple language, but not simplistic or condescending "little kid talk."Using a Question/Answer format (one question per page), it is a very good, reasonably thorough telling of what life was like. It goes beyond "they ate berries and salmon," and asks (and answers) such human-interest questions as "Did they have parties? What was most valuable to them? Were grown-ups strict?"Not only are these questions good at revealing what life was like for these people, they are the sort of questions kids ask, and thus it draws them into the answers. It might be a bit too much for the K-2 grades, but 3rd through 6th graders who read this on their own will mostly enjoy it and learn from it. Indeed, I've been doing in-depth reading in this area for years, and I not only enjoyed reading it myself, I actually got a better perspective on some things. If you have a kid in this age range, and you want them to learn about this generally under-publicized yet fascinating native culture, this is an excellent book.

I bought this for my dad and he really liked it. It's a children's book, but sophisticated enough that an adult could enjoy the information. I bought it because it was the only book I could find on the Northwest Indian clans. Dad liked it.

This children's picture book by Anne Kamma introduces educators and children alike to the day and the life of eight indigenous America groups that occupied the northwest coastal area of the New World. The 63 page document supplies worldview, lifestyle and gender realities seldom discussed in K-12 settings. From an instructional perspective Kamma out did herself. I for one am eternally grateful for the culturally competency approach used to craft this book. Moreover, regardless of age and English language proficiency this children's picture book is a must read of the first order. May Kamma continue to grace us with profoundly imperative historical and culturally accurate data.

This is a great book.

As a fifth grade teacher in Michigan, my first Social Studies unit covers the ways American Indians in different regions of America adapted to their environment. This book, along with its companion books about the Souix, Iroquois, and Hopi Indians, are excellent supplements to the textbook. Each one presents a wealth of information in a question and answer format easily understandable by elementary students.

As a teacher I use some of the books in the series to read to my 8th grade History classes. I utilize the books around the units in American History to expand student knowledge of the people or situations we are discussing. I read 4-5 pages everyday and we discuss the information contained in the books. The students gain a much better perspective of what it was like.

Arrived on time. Good reading materials for 2nd graders.

At some point while wading through the hundreds of books, thousands of YouTube videos, and millions of blogs and web pages devoted to teach a human being how to run, I got so bogged down by so much contradictory points of view that I just gave up. Not on running, just on the search for the perfection of it. I really love to run. But for thirteen years I stopped. This year I turn 44 and I have decided to make duathlon my sport. For years I have been body building and cross training on road and mountain bike. I started running again this spring as part of my training and immediately became hobbled by shin splints. And so I did what everyone does, I searched the Internet for advice on how to fix the problem. And that lead to article after article and video after video of information on every conceivable aspect of running. It also led to a severe bout of information overload and it led me to just give up on reading, viewing, or listening to any more advice from experts on running. So when I picked this book up at the library it was only because the words body and building where in the title and I spent two decades doing that so I figured I could wade through the B.S. one more time but with little hope of getting past the first chapter. But then as I read on I realized that there isn't really any B.S. and that it rather clearly breaks down running by individual body systems and yet shows how the are all connected. It also hits on most of the running training methods out there today but in a way that gives you an overview rather than a dogmatic opinion. There are also chapters devoted to all the usual aspects covered in every other running book I've read. But this is more like a running for dummies book but for people of average intelligence. People who aren't necessarily attempting to be a better runner by reading but rather by running. So for me, this book is it. I am done. I am returning this book to the library today after the copy I orderd on Amazon arrives today. I'm not reading any more books on running. I'm not reading any more magazines on the latest running shoes. I will still watch the occasional video on running events and destinations but not on form or cadence or stretching or cross training. It's all just a waist of energy to me at this point. I've settled on a source of information for me that I will reference from now on on those subjects. I now will own exactly one book on running after reading or attempting to read dozens. It won't get updated with the latest greatest fads and crazes in the world of running and to me that's good. In fact, during my search for perfection in my running I realized that this book probably isn't perfect, BUT, it's good enough. And good enough is something I've never found from any of the other books, videos, and cyber opinions that I have waded through to get here.

Build Your Running Body seems like one of the more thorough running books out there. Here's a quick breakdown of the chapters...-Chapter 1 covers basic running stuff such as motivation, gear, etc.-Chapter 2 is what I think of as the meat and potatoes of the book. It tells you how to build the parts of your body to get you a better "running body". A few areas discussed include the muscles, connective tissues, hormones, nervous system - I like the some of these are things runners don't normally think about.-Chapter 3 talks helps you with a running program, talking about things such as a training schedule, recovery, injury prevention (BTW, runners with problematic hamstrings might want to check out Bulletproof Your Hamstrings-Chapter 4 discusses running and your diet-Chapter 5 talks about a racing strategy/approachAs you can see, its a pretty complete book that cover a lot of important (and little thought about) running information. There's also over a hundred workouts to help build your running body - from plyometrics to cross training - and there's even recipes! So if you're looking for ways to improve your running and your body, its worth a good look! :)

This is the *one* book to get if you are going to get any book on running. It's comprehensive, well-written and has many practical examples and advice. It validates many of the things I do now to keep this running body on the road.

I don't say a " must read book" but a " must have book" for any type of runners (or trainers) from amateurs to elite athletes. The book has very valuable information about how to plan a training routine, how to feed and how to avoid injuries, which you will need to check over and over during your preparation. Not only runners but also any kind of sports people can get advantage from it because it contains many useful information about human anatomy and results of important scientific researches about sports performance. The only downturn of it is, tables in the books are not easy to read in the kindle edition; so I strongly recommend to buy a hardcopy.

As I near my 30th birthday (yikes) I've been trying to get in better shape. This book has been very helpful for taking my running to the next level. Prior to reading it I typically ran at a fairly fast pace with low mileage and suffered tons of injuries from overuse. The book is very helpful in guiding you to running at the appropriate pace and distances. It will teach you how to avoid injury, get stronger, and faster. Its a very comprehensive book and has lots of information about strength training, improving nervous system, food, strengthening connective tissue, etc. etc. I really like all the exercises for injury prevention! Tons of information. If there is a critique, I think it is that the running plans are often a bit overly complex. If you are a new runner or not terribly serious you will have to modify the run plans to fit your needs. However, the information is all there to make those decisions. The book reads very easy and I enjoyed reading all the chapters that fit my goals. In the last 4 months I've gone from running ~ 3-4 miles a week to running >12 miles a week. I've avoided major injuries and the legs feel pretty good.

Wow, this book is like a reference manual for runners! Information geared towards whatever level you're at. Very detailed and lots of pictures to help demonstrate exercises, etc. Routines are included such as strengthening muscles using weights, stretching and routines for running schedules.

Agree with several others that this covers many, many key issues with running. I have some books that are better on specific parts of running, however this is the best overall book I have. I bought two additional books for friends.

I got this book during a period of public discount which made it nearly free, but no review was required or promised.I wish this book had more pictures in it, but the recipes are good. It does have some pictures, and they are all very nice, full color, large photos. I just really love it when there is one for every recipe. It is a very comprehensive book for ice cream lovers- it discusses ingredients, equipment, and techniques. The step by step directions are complete and clear. There are ample recipes for ice creams, ices, sorbets, and other frozen treats based on fruits/juice/creams. I loved also that there are topping recipes included, such as the perfect whipped cream, fudge sauce, ect.It is a paperback. It's easy to handle and not too thick or heavy, but there are a lot of good recipes in it. Maple Walnut is my favorite. I appreciated that the author remembers even little things- like removing skins off walnuts- that are included to help the ice cream be the best it can be. I love chocolate, and there are a lot of really good looking chocolate ice cream recipes that I can't wait to try. The ingredients are very easy to find, but these recipes do often use a LOT of cream and custard type cooked recipes with eggs. I did not see a lot of condensed milk in the recipes, instead, where I'd expect to see that, the recipes called for milk and sugar. The recipes don't take a lot of shortcuts, but that all equals to the very best ice cream in my experience.

I got an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchenaid Stand Mixer as a wedding gift. This book has helped me put it to good use! There are a variety of recipes, from familiar ice cream flavors to more inventive, from bright and fruity sherbets and sorbets to boozy desserts. There are even recipes for mix-ins like the perfect cookies for cookies and cream ice cream or cookies for ice cream sandwiches.I have already made the lime sherbet and it was fresh and full of flavor (much better than store bought and not unnaturally green). I have my eye on London Fog (Earl Gray) ice cream next. This book would be perfect to gift with an ice cream maker on a wedding registry. The recipe book that comes with the machines is very basic!I received this book for free for my honest and unbiased review.

The recipes are straight forward and simple. The reasoning of simple ingredients is because they feels that by using the highest quality organic produce & dairy, and seasonal, the tastier the ice cream will be. It is true because using seasonal fruit is sweeter, thus using less sugar. There are a few recipes that do not require the use of an ice cream machine.

I am very disappointed that there are no recipes in this book that can't be found everywhere else. I was hoping for some recipes using unusual ingredients. The only difference that I can see between these recipes and any others is that these are much richer, using a dozen egg yolks and extreme amounts of heavy cream per recipe.

Was not as happy with the book as I anticipated. Lots of recipes but, many require a boat-load of eggs. Not as many healthy recipes as I wanted either.

I remember making ice cream when I was a kid with my grandmother. This book had so many options for so many frozen treats - including combinations and flavors I never would have thought of! It doesn't stop with just the ice cream either -- it has ideas for what to do with said ice cream, toppings, etc. A great cookbook for anyone who loves ice cream!I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I'd like to see a consistent recipe volume. Some are 1 Quart, ,some 1.5 Quart and some 2. I would have gone with 1 Quart as a standard. If you want more, double the batch.

The book is bringing the best out of my life now I feel like SUMMER is here.
